1920s - AERIAL VIEW

This view was taken from the south over 80 years ago. It reveals quite a few interesting features.

At the top you can see the HOME FIELD before it became the NORTH YARD. It is now the site of the new building and staff car park.

The headmaster's house was not built yet, nor were many of the houses on Church Road opposite the school.

Near the bottom right of the picture a tramcar is heading down the hill towards Penny Lane. The tram tracks still lie beneath the asphalt of Church Road, and were briefly revealed during roadworks in 2007.

The big picture was used on a postcard and appears in several publications, including our own "A Blue Coat Boy in the 1920s" by Danny Ross.
