OBITUARIES
It is with sadness that we report the passing of two long-serving teachers at the School.
Mr Mark Hickman (affectionately nick-named "Hicky") passed
away peacefully on 23rd January 2010 at the age of 85.
Mr Hickman was the first LEA-appointed teacher when the
school became bi-lateral in 1949 and he spent most of his
teaching career at the Blue Coat until his retirement in 1985.
Plans are being made to hold a memorial service in the school chapel later this year. Details will appear on this website.
Mr James Pinder, who taught music from the late 1960s through
to the 1980s, has also passed away recently. He was based in
Room 44, which is now The Blundell Suite.
Both of these teachers will be remembered with affection by generations of Blue Coat boys.
MILLICENT HUGHES RETURNS
After leaving the Blue Coat School in 1949, Millicent Hughes ended up living in New Zealand and very rarely visited the UK. Her health prevented her from travelling to the Tricentenary events, but on Wednesday 26th August she finally made it back to the Blue Coat. The Brotherly Society arranged for several of her old friends to be there, and after a nostalgic wander around the corridors they retired to the Richmond Tavern for lunch. Stan Livingston took this photo of the group in the School Chapel.
